You spend your days leading, guiding, deciding, solving, encouraging, and pouring into others. But who is sharpening you?
People come to you for direction. Your team expects answers. Your organization looks to you for decisions. In ministry, at home, or within your community, others may see you as someone they can follow.
Those responsibilities can be meaningful and deeply rewarding. They can also make leadership feel one-directional: you keep giving, carrying, and showing up, while the space to receive becomes smaller.
Every so often, a leader needs to pause and ask a question that rarely appears on a meeting agenda: Who is helping me become the leader God is calling me to be?
A leader remains a learner
Experience can strengthen our judgment, but it does not remove our need for counsel. A position can give us responsibility without giving us every answer. The ability to encourage others does not mean we never need encouragement ourselves.
Christian leadership calls for a teachable heart. We need people who can listen honestly, challenge our assumptions, speak truth with care, and help us see what we may have overlooked. We need opportunities to return to Scripture and prayer with attention, rather than squeezing them into the margins of an already crowded day.
Remaining open to correction and growth is part of responsible leadership. When people depend on our decisions, our willingness to keep learning matters to them too.
Make room to receive
For someone accustomed to helping everyone else, receiving can feel unfamiliar. Sitting quietly, asking for guidance, or admitting uncertainty may take more courage than delivering another confident answer.
Yet meaningful fellowship gives leaders room to be people as well as decision-makers. In the company of fellow Christian leaders, we can bring questions, listen to different experiences, and consider our responsibilities with fresh perspective.
Before we sharpen others, we must remain willing to be sharpened. Before we continue pouring into others, we need space to receive. As our influence grows, our character, understanding, and dependence on God must keep growing with it.
Three intentional days to refocus
This is part of the heart behind Haggai Philippines – Metro Manila Chapter National Seminar 2026: Rise to Influence. From November 16–18, Christian leaders and emerging leaders are invited to step away from their usual demands and make room for focused learning, reflection, and fellowship.
The experience is designed to offer:
- Biblical leadership enrichment — examine the principles and convictions shaping your leadership.
- Spiritual refreshment and realignment — give attention to your walk with God and the purpose behind your responsibilities.
- Practical equipping — reflect on how to use your position, profession, relationships, and voice for Christ.
- Meaningful fellowship — learn alongside Christian leaders from different spheres of influence.
- A renewed commitment to Gospel influence — consider how your leadership can help others encounter truth and grow in faith.
These three days are an invitation to listen again, learn again, and allow God to work on the person behind the leadership.
“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.”Isaiah 60:1 (KJV)
Who is shaping your leadership?
As you consider joining, take a moment to reflect: Who can challenge me with honesty and care? Where am I making room to listen? What habits and relationships are shaping the way I influence others?
If you have spent much of this season leading others, perhaps this is a timely opportunity to learn, receive, realign, and rise again.
